Typical Network Applications of HG8245

This topic describes the typical network applications of the HG8040/HG8120/HG8240/HG8240B/HG8242/HG8242B/HG8244T/HG8245/Hg8247/HG8447.

As a network terminal, the ONT is deployed at the GPON access layer and connects the home users users to the Internet through the optical upstream port.


Figure 1 shows the position of the ONT on a network.
In the upstream direction, the Huawei OLT  is connected to the optical splitter and the networkside OLT through the passive optical network (PON) port, namely the OPTICAL port, to provide the integrated access service.

In the downstream direction, the ONT is connected to various terminals through the abundant LAN-side ports, implementing the triple play service.
1 Ethernet ports, which can be connected to terminals such as the PC, STB, and video phone to provide the high-speed data and video services.
NOTE:
Each Ethernet port allows only 1 user access.

2 TEL ports, which can be connected to the telephone set or fax machine to provide the superior and cost-effective voice over IP (VoIP), fax over IP (FoIP), and modem over IP (MoIP) services.
NOTE:
Each TEL port allows only 1 user access.

3 Wi-Fi, which can be connected to a Wi-Fi terminal through wireless connection to provide a secure and reliable high-speed wireless network.
NOTE:
Each ONT allows up 6 wireless connections.

4 USB port, which can be connected to a USB storage device to provide convenient home network attached storage and file sharing services.

5 CATV port, which can be connected to a TV set to provide the quality CATV service transmission.

OPTICAL: Indicates the optical port. The optical port is equipped with a rubber plug and is connected to an optical fiber for upstream transmission. The type of the optical connector connected to the OPTICAL port is SC/APC.
LAN1-LAN4: Indicate auto-sensing 10/100/1000M Base-T Ethernet ports (RJ-45), used for connecting to PCs or IP STBs.
TEL1-TEL2: Indicate VoIP telephone ports (RJ-11), used for connecting to the ports on telephone sets.
ON/OFF: Indicates the power-on/power-off button, used for powering on or powering off the device.
POWER: Indicates the power port, used for connecting to the power adapter or backup battery.

BBU: Indicates the external backup battery monitoring port, used for connecting to the backup battery for monitoring the battery.
USB: Indicates the USB host port, used for connecting to a USB storage device.
WLAN: Indicates the WLAN button, used for enabling or disabling the WLAN function.
WPS: Indicates the WLAN data encryption switch.
RESET:  Indicates the reset button. Press the button for a short time to reset the device; press the button for a long time (longer than 10s) to restore the device to the default settings and reset the device.

This Introduction also can be used for the HG8247 GPON, as the ports are the most same.

How to Set the Port of the SCUB/SCUN as the Upstream Port

Question:
Both Huawei SCUB and Huawei SCUN have four GE optical ports, which can function as upstream ports. How to set the GE optical port of the control board (SCUB/SCUN) as upstream ports when upstream transmission is not implemented by the GIU board?

Answer:
Switching to the upstream port of the SCUB is controlled by the electronic switch. At a time, only the upstream port of the GIU board or the port of the control board can be used for upstream transmission.
Note: In the case of the SCUB, make sure that the current configuration of the system is already saved before running the electro-switch command. After this command is run, the system will be reset.

A To set the port of the control board as the upstream port, run the electro-switch 0
location-0 command.
B To set the port of the GIU board as the upstream port, run the electro-switch 0
location-1 command.
C The SCUN can work with the Huawei EPON GIU upstream board. In this case, the SCUN equals an
upstream board in another GIU slot.
